Barnegat is a mainland township in Ocean County, New Jersey, with a total area of 40.41 square miles, of which 34.00 are land and 15.85% is water. Barnegat Bay sits along the township's eastern edge. The township does not border the open Atlantic, and the barrier-island municipalities across the bay are separate towns. The Garden State Parkway runs north-south through the township center, and U.S. Route 9 runs along the eastern side.
